Jaipur is the capital of India’s Rajasthan state. It evokes the royal family that once ruled the region and that, in 1727, founded what is now called the Old City, or “Pink City” for its trademark building color. At the center of its stately street grid (notable in India) stands the opulent, colonnaded City Palace complex. With gardens, courtyards and museums, part of it is still a royal residence.

Hawa Mahal

Hawa Mahal, Palace of Winds, built in 1799 by Sawai Pratap Singh, was a summer retreat and observation point for royal ladies. Its pyramidal structure stands 50 feet tall.

City Palace Jaipur

Deep within the walled city, City Palace Complex was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, blending Mughal and Rajput styles. Home to Jaipur’s last ruling family, it features expansive courtyards in red and pink sandstone.

Nahargarh Fort

Nahargarh Fort, perched on the Aravalli Hills’ ridge, forms a majestic backdrop to Jaipur. Built in 1734 during Jai Singh’s reign and expanded in 1868, it served as a crucial defense, earning its name ‘abode of tigers’.

Amer Fort

Amer, 11 km from Jaipur, was the Kachwaha bastion until Jaipur became the capital. The palace, nestled in craggy hills, is built of red sandstone and marble, featuring four levels with courtyards.

Jal Mahal

Jal Mahal, or Lake Palace, in Jaipur is a stunning sight with its sand-colored stone walls contrasting against the deep blue waters of Man Sagar Lake, creating a picturesque floating palace.

Jantar Mantar

Jantar Mantar in Jaipur, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the largest of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II’s five observatories. It features sixteen geometric instruments to measure time, track celestial bodies, and observe orbits.

Jaigarh Fort

Located 15 kilometers from Jaipur, Jaigarh Fort, built by Sawai Jai Singh II in the early 18th century, stands imposingly amid arid, rocky hills. It houses the world’s largest cannon, Jaiban.
